Kennedy's presidency. The action happens at the height of The Cold War as fears begin to peak that Russia may overtake the U. There's an nuclear arms race happening across the globe and dozens of government agencies were trotted out to the public as yet another measure to keep the Soviets at bay. But they were also manipulating information and circumstances to quash any perception of American weakness or impropriety.
The Bureau is one of these agencies. At first, the real raison d'etre of the Bureau is a secret even for the people who work there. Carter wields a special ability called Battle Focus which slightly slows down the action and lets him issue commands. Players will be able to control squadmates in battle and will recruit, customize and upgrade them as well.
We're trying to keep XCOM tied to its roots as a game that demands skill. Some people might say 'ahh, that's hard. It's a game that requires you to use your brains and your bullets to win. Picture a modern, small-unit tactical combat game set in the '60s with technology that NASA should've made back then and your opposition are aliens.. That's what we're shooting for. Gray also made it sound like there might be some time-shifting in the game's storyline, where players get to be there at the day-one stage of the organization and they also get to be part of the government covering up The Bureau's existence.
And what about permadeath, the most haunting element of last year's Enemy Unknown? And, unlike the turn-based strategic games where you can pull away from the main campaigns and kind of pull somebody off the bench, [the Bureau's] campaign is constantly moving forward.
So our expression of the consequence of agent loss is even more brutal. But kind of awesome, too. I asked Gray if there'd be any kind of reward mechanism in The Bureau that would benefits players who bought Enemy Unknown. But we don't have anything where having an install of Enemy Unknown produces something in our game or vice versa.
So why the change from a first-person perspective, which was what XCOM was when it was last seen? It was a focus on investigation," Gray explained. Also, I noticed a few minor bugs: 1- There's issues with water reflections 2- Some issues with lights and glows for example with the rifle flash light on the loading screen scene at start of game.
I had to doing manually via a hotkey each time this happened and switch values f1,f2,f3. I hope my feedback helps in case you continue to develop the fix. How do I turn off the auto-depth? It constantly changes when the game goes into 3rd person or isometric view, or when the camera changes. I rather simply use a hotkey manually and avoid this form going off on its own. Sorry, but I did not build in a disable, and the function is highly integrated through multiple presets and texture overrides.
You can try editing the d3dx. DJ-RK said: Sorry, but I did not build in a disable, and the function is highly integrated through multiple presets and texture overrides. I picked up WOTC on sale recently and finally got a chance to install and enjoy it and I wanted to thank you for this fix! I noticed one broken shader in the first mission on some boxes on a roof but that's it so far.
I love how the parallax presets change automatically, they are nearly perfect with exception of the squad load out before a mission. I don't know how you managed this but it's so nice not having to constantly change that as with the previous fix. I played the original extensively with the original fix and honestly it was so cumbersome with the constantly changing views and the convergence.
I haven't had a chance to play through this again as yet but its on my list. Thanks again DJ-RK. Necropants said: Yes! The problem is, the fix reverts you back out of the F1 setting to whatever the default convergence setting of the fix is every time the scene changes. I would prefer to just make the F1 convergence the default convergence at this point.
That aside, I have a few pointers in regards to performance that will be immediately relevant to you since we are both using the same monitor. If you have 52 FPS? It's going to stutter. I pretty much never find any of the shaderhackers fixes to be right for my setup and I need to find my own convergence values for the presets.
I will check this out again soon but honestly for a game of this type I am not to concerned with keeping a constant 60fps anyway, but will let you know starman. I am not sure if it's possible to do this with his fix easily due to all the auto settings but I'll take a look at it soon. My experience has been that if it's not 60 FPS it's a stutter fest. To see what I'm talking about if youre seeing 50 FPS anywhere try temporarily reducing the resolution to x and pan the camera around the map and then switch back.
This game is unplayable at anything other than 60 FPS. As an aside, I discovered that you can indeed quick save via F5 and quick-load via F9. The manual save system was so cumbersome, I was elated to figure this out on my own. The only caveat is that you only have one quick save file, so you better be damn sure youre saving in a good spot. I see this touted often on these forums by various people. I definitely do not experience stuttering in any games I can think of other than the well known SLI micro stutter which is pretty much unavoidable.
I honestly do not notice it. Only issue i have is some games do very funny things with Vsync which seems to cause eyes to go out of sync a bit but playing around with the settings usually fixes this. As for this game in particular the original version of the game was atrocious in general in terms of performance but I haven't seen any frame drops in the new version.
I've been playign this game a lot lately, with over mods installed wich really elevate the experience. Keep an eye on that. The current fix I'd rate as "very good". A few issues remain to that prevent the fix from being 3D Vision Ready: - Water reflections are doubled in all settings - Light shafts from weapon flashlights are cut off - Training Center holograms are all messed up. I recouped enough performance to turn resolution back up from x to native with the same FPS around 58 FPS looking at the Avenger.
These other settings also seem to not make a visual difference but yield performance: Shadows to Static only and Decals to Static only. Some very minor issues exist in some game screens like incorrect shadows for gun flashlight , but the 3D fix for the primary combat screens has flawless 3D! Thanks for great work, especially your innovative auto-focus work the game rapidly changes viewpoint and scale during game play.
The autofocus occasionally gets stuck at wrong convergence, but it generally works great. I suggest adding your great fix to the blog Originally, I could not get the fix to launch under Windows 10 on my setup, but I have not tested this limitation recently.
Glad you're enjoying it, and yeah, I really should update the blog page at the very least. There's quite a few updates for game fixes I've done but only posted up on the forums out of pure laziness, I'll admit. I did my first blog update in probably over a year for Quantum Break with masterotaku's update a couple days back, which got me back into the habit.
Bad thing is, none of this games are easy to pick up if you stopped playing them for a good while I blame the player on that. Last edited by Eze ; 17 Feb, pm. Thanks, while it doesn't seem to be quite a FPS or a 3PS, it does present an alternative point of view. It is on offer though I got the game plus all DLC for 7. Originally posted by Eze :.
